About

Who We Represent

Our office represents the University, including University officials acting in their official capacities. Our office does not represent individual faculty, staff members, or students in personal legal matters including employment or student relationships with the University. For help with personal legal matters, please see our Useful Links page.

Client Satisfaction Survey

Clients representing all seven campuses and University Administration were invited in 2016 to participate in our third biennial Client Satisfaction Survey.  We are pleased to announce that the results of the 2016 survey reflects that our office continues to provide a very high level of service to the University in terms of outcomes, cost-effective service, and awareness and appreciation of our clients' goals.

Annual Report

Our office took the lead in 2016-17 on a number of accomplishments including 2 new programs that provide significant benefits for the IU community.

The Wills and Advanced Directives Program in its inaugural year provided over 60 IU constituents with wills, powers of attorney, and advance directives legal documents.  Many more are in the pipeline to complete this process and we continue to expand these important services to the Indianapolis area with the recent addition of McKinney School of Law students to the program.

Paid Parental Leave is another important initiative championed and coordinated by our attorneys.  Effective April 2017, President McRobbie and the IU Board of Trustees unanimously approved a policy which will provide up to 6 weeks of paid parental leave following the birth or adoption of a child to eligible IU staff members.  Read more about these initiatives and all the ways we serve you in our 2016-17 Annual Report.

You can read our annual reports from prior years below.

Charges for Our Services

Our office has implemented a limited chargeback system for specified services it provides to University units. Your unit will be charged back modest, set fees for only a few types of services. Examples include:

  • Flat fees for specified immigration-related services. See our Immigration page for more information.
  • An annual flat fee for each lawsuit our office manages on behalf of your unit.
  • Special projects of significant magnitude that requires substantial effort from our office.

This limited chargeback system will allow our office to more accurately allocate its operating costs to units based on their utilization of our services.

If you have question about our limited chargeback system, please contact Dave O’Guinn or Jeff Goetz.
