Beverly is Indiana University’s new Chief Intellectual Property Counsel. As a liaison to the Vice President of Research, she efficiently and effectively protects and promotes all University technology via patents, trademarks, copyrights, and/or trade secrets.
Beverly was most recently a partner at Baker Hostettler in its Cincinnati and Atlanta offices, so also brings vast corporate and university legal experience in global patent portfolio procurement, licensing, and management, as well as in representing physicians and navigating health law issues This combination of skills facilitates the University’s mission as it approaches its third century of excellence in science and research. As a former faculty member at the University of Tennessee, Beverly has an inside perspective of the University’s many roles in technology.
Beverly has been named to both Chamber’s Leading Lawyers for Business, and Best Lawyers in America for many years. In addition to her law degree, Beverly holds a Ph.D. and M.S. in Biochemistry, and a M.S. in Science Education.
Continuing her deep ties to academia in both legal and scientific disciplines, Beverly is an adjunct professor at the Indiana University Maurer School of Law. She is a sought after speaker on various intellectual property issues including her specialized biotechnology and life sciences practice areas, as well as business-focused aspects of intellectual property. She is equally comfortable presenting seminars to corporate, academic, and student audiences, and is the author of numerous publications.
